Our new favourite kitchen appliance and 7 ways we use it

 21 Jul 2015

We’re into water at the IQS office. Recently we got sparkling water put on tap. Which saw us get about as excited as an office crew can get at 10am.

Yep, sparkling water. On tap. All the time. With bonus filtered boiling and chilled water. On, um, tap. No more waiting for the kettle to boil. Not now, with our Zenith HydroTap installed in the IQS Kitchen.

Just so you know, this is a sponsored post. But opinions are our own and we researched the topic and came to these conclusions independently.

Zenith is a fandangley Australian-made tap that attaches to your normal plumbing system. It works to filter out tiny impurities and saves the world from buying bottled water or bottled sparkling (and kettle queues). Sarah campaigns robustly against bottled water, for a bunch of reasons which you can catch up on here. Not ones to keep things to ourselves, we thought we’d let you guys into some of the best “make water interesting” tips and tricks we’ve been playing with:

1. Make a Vitamin C spritz. Meagan, our project co-ordinator, was feeling a little under the weather and had her vitamin C powder in sparkling water. Now, that’s a delicious way to get better!

2. Instant miso soup. Katie, our head of sales and marketing, adds 1 teaspoon of brown miso paste into some warm water from the Zenith HydroTap for an instant afternoon pick me up, perfect in this cooler weather we’re having at the moment.

3. Homemade kombucha. Ditch the store-bought version and do like the IQS team. We use the boiling water from the Zenith HydroTap to brew black tea for the kombucha. Check out Sarah’s fructose-free Chai Kombucha for a great recipe. Sarah always drinks hers 50:50 kombucha and sparkling water. “Really, we probably shouldn’t be drinking more than 100ml of kombucha a day…in part due to the residual sugar content,” she says.

4. Lavender oil Fizz. Sarah likes to add a few drops of essential oils to her sparkling water in the afternoon. Lavender, lemon, peppermint all work well.

5. Sugar-craving buster. Nicola, our new digital marketing manager, has been having licorice tea in the afternoon, brewed in Zenith’s boiling water for a sugar-free sweet fix that helps curb sugar cravings at the same time. Double whammy!

6. Office couscous! Katie adds 2.5 cups of boiling water to 1.5 cups of couscous. She lets it sit until absorbed and shares with the rest of the IQS team to have in their lunches. Thumbs up Katie!

7. Simply keeping hydrated. The tech team aren’t very adventurous when it comes to the Zenith HydroTap. But they’ve been using it simply to get their filtered H2O in sometimes they add in some herbs like mint of basil from our upstairs garden. Onya, tech team!

If you had a Zenith HydroTap installed and you had access to boiling, chilled and sparkling water, what would you make? We’d love some suggestions, let us know your thoughts below.
